Melissa Etheridge Chicago reviews
Obnoxious audience and poor sound marred performance
Melissa Etheridge is amazing. She rocks it out and quiets it down and jazzes it up for a powerful and moving 2-hours! We love her and she never ceases to impress us!
My critique and meager 3-star rating is due to the audience and the venue. Chandler Center for the Arts is perhaps not suited for a rock concert because the sound quality wasn’t great. We couldn’t make out the lyrics and it seemed like her vocal mic was muffled. Also, the audience wasn’t very excitable in the seats. Perhaps some folks just have seasons tickets and weren’t necessarily fans of hers? Sitting among the audience was a snooze. The true fans stood in front along the stage and when we realized the staff wasn’t going to send everyone back to their seats we went up front too. Unfortunately, those people were so obnoxious! I wanted to ask why they’d buy tickets and push all the way up to the stage just to watch the entire show through their phone screens?! These were mostly 50-year-old ladies not teenagers so put down your dang phone! The phones were constantly up in front of my face, and hitting me on the head when the drunk ones weren’t paying attention. Also, they were being so rude to Melissa just by having loud conversations with each other throughout the songs instead of listening! If y’all want to talk, maybe don’t do it 2 feet in front of the performer?! That’s just rude! We ended up going back up to our seats because at least we had a better experience among the snoozers than the people acting like they were in a noisy dive bar.
Advice to the Chandler Arts Center: fix your sound, crack down on phone recording usage, disburse the stage hogs to avoid all that noise and bright screens down in front.
The show was nothing short of spectacular.
MELISSA comes through again. The curtain call was the best, with a 5 minute double drumming as only Melissa can do,
The venue was disappointing. We purchased VIP hoping to do a little meet and greet and i guess we purchased the wrong level. But we didn’t know that so we got in the VIP line, got in to the venue, got a lanyard that said photo op. And then come to find out we only had merchandise VIP. We asked if she could squeeze 2 more in (a couple of times) but the more we protested the more popcorn we got.
